Veterinary Referrals: Supporting Feline Behaviour Cases

Behaviour cases can be challenging. I can help!

I’m an experienced RVT with a passion for behaviour, which is why I’m pursuing certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Behaviour (VTS-B).  Veterinary referrals allow me to support feline patients and their families while continuing to build my portfolio of cases required for this credential.

As an RVT, I understand the limitations of assessing patients only within the veterinary clinic environment (especially cats). That’s why I believe behaviour services can be even more effective when cats can be assessed in their home environment.

Complex felines often require significant time and ongoing support to ensure both the cat and their caregivers receive exceptional care. After the DVM establishes a diagnosis and treatment plan, I can serve as an additional layer of support for the client by answering questions, helping family members implement recommendations, teaching consent-focused approaches to handling and medication administration, and providing the veterinary team with objective updates on the cat’s progress.

How can I help your feline patients?

Referring to Radiant Cats allows your clients to access accurate, feline-focused, welfare-centered behaviour and training support that complements the excellent care your team is already providing. DVMs may refer clients for:

  • Behaviour consultations:
    • House soiling
    • Stress/anxiety
    • Fear
    • Aggression (inter-cat, interspecies, human-directed)
    • Here is a Behaviour Problem List with examples of cases where I can provide support.
  • Training:
    • Behaviour modification plans
    • Cooperative care (giving medication, husbandry, medical handling, carrier training, etc.)
  • Individualized support for success with your prescribed medical or behavioural treatment plan
  • In-home management solutions

Not sure if referring is the right choice?

Reach out to radiantcatsbehaviour@gmail.com if:

  • You're not sure how my services will benefit your client or fit into your treatment plan. Send a brief summary of the case, treatment goals, and any questions you may have, and I'll let you know what I provide through a behaviour consultation.

  • You have a client who is struggling with their cat's unwanted behaviours but is not able to be referred for a consultation. I'm open to direct collaboration with the DVM overseeing the case. We can arrange for a 15-30 minute phone call, free of charge, if that is the best way to support to you, your feline patients, and their guardians.

Veterinary Referral Form

The referral process:

  1. Obtain the client’s consent to share their contact information and the cat’s medical records.
  2. The referring veterinarian completes the referral form on this page.
  3. I contact the client by email to schedule an appointment and arrange payment ($100/hr virtual; $125/hr in-person for Edmonton-area clients).
  4. The client and I meet for the consultation.
  5. The referring veterinarian and client receive an emailed summary and training plan.
  6. Ongoing collaboration with the veterinary team may continue as needed to support the client’s success.

Please note: To provide the best care for your patient, a behavioural diagnosis and summary of recommendations made to date are required. See the Behaviour Problem List for examples of cases where I can provide support.

You may attach medical records using this form, or email directly to radiantcatsbehaviour@gmail.com. Please include the client's presenting complaint, the cat's behaviour history, findings of the physical exam, relevant diagnostic results, and previous treatment plans in the medical records.
