Veterinary Referrals: Supporting Feline Behaviour Cases

Behaviour cases can be challenging. I can help!

As an RVT, I'm familiar with the limitations that arise when you can only see your patients from inside a vet clinic (especially cats). That's why I believe it's crucial to offer behaviour services where the cat can be assessed in their own home, either virtually or in-person.

Complex felines often need, and deserve, a significant amount of time dedicated to ensuring the cat and their guardians are receiving exceptional care and support. After the DVM makes a diagnosis and treatment plan, I can act as another pillar of support for the client. I can answer questions, help family members understand and follow your treatment plan (including using a consent-focused approach to handling and administering medications), and provide the vet team with objective updates on the cat's progress.

Referring to Radiant Cats is another way to provide your clients with accurate, feline-focused, and welfare-centered behaviour and training information that supplements the wonderful care you're already providing.

DVMs may refer clients to Radiant Cats for:

  • Behaviour consultations for:
    • House soiling
    • Stress/anxiety
    • Fear
    • Aggression (inter-cat, interspecies, human-directed)
    • Other behavioural diagnoses
  • Training
    • Behaviour modification plans
    • Cooperative care (giving medication, husbandry, medical handling, carrier training, etc.)
  • Individualized support for success with your prescribed medical or behavioural treatment plan
  • In-home management solutions

Not sure if referring is the right choice?

Reach out to radiantcatsbehaviour@gmail.com if:

  • You're not sure how my services will benefit your client or fit into your treatment plan. Send a brief summary of the case, treatment goals, and any questions you may have, and I'll let you know what I provide through a behaviour consultation.

  • You have a client who is struggling with their cat's unwanted behaviours but is not able to be referred for a consultation. I'm open to direct collaboration with the DVM overseeing the case. We can arrange for a 15-30 minute phone call, free of charge, if that is the best way to support to you, your feline patients, and their guardians.

The referral process:

  1. Obtain client's consent to share contact info & cat's medical record.
  2. Referring vet completes the form on this page.
  3. I connect with client via email to book an appointment & arrange payment ($100/hr virtual, $125/hr in-person).
  4. The client & I will meet.
  5. Referring vet & client will receive an email with a summary of the appointment.

Ongoing follow-up communications between myself & the DVM may be necessary for ongoing client support (timeframe dependent on individual cases).

Please attach medical records using this form, or email directly to radiantcatsbehaviour@gmail.com. Please include the client's presenting complaint, the cat's behaviour history, findings from their physical exam, laboratory results, and previous treatment plans in the medical records.

Edmonton, AB, Canada

Radiant Cats acknowledges that I am a settler that resides and makes a living on land that is referred to as Treaty 6 Territory, which is the traditional and ancestral lands of the Nêhiyaw (Nay-hee-yow), Dene (Deh-neyh), Anishinaabe (Ah-nish-in-ah-bay), Nakota Isga (Na-koh-tah ee-ska), Niitsitapi (Nit-si-tahp-ee), Métis (May-tea), and Inuit peoples. I recognize that amiskwacîwâskahikan, colonially known as Edmonton, is currently, and since time immemorial, called home by many Indigenous peoples.  I am committed to learning about, honouring, and celebrating Indigenous ways of knowing and their connections to the animals who share this land with us.

2026 Update

I’m thrilled to share that I've completed a 6 month training program and am now a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP).

While completing this certification, I experienced high demand and reduced capacity, leading to longer wait times. My response time has continued to be delayed as I strive to reply to every cat guardian who has requested my services over the past few months.

If you are in urgent need of assistance, please consider reaching out to Little Weirdos Training.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as I work to better serve you and our feline friends!
